As per title. Wondering if there's a decent pub within a reasonable walk of the station where a few old before their time thirtysomethings can catch up over a pint or two of real ale. Ideas?

Any pub that doesn't have Council baby in is good.

Northcote road has plenty of pubs on it, just a few minutes walk from the station.

Depends what you like?

All bar one for the standard pub chain or something like the holy drinker further up...

Start at the cross roads next to Northcote pub walk 100m past debenhams on left hand side and to the next cross roads balham way and you are there.

The duck and the Goat used to be good a while ago.

Thanks. Prefer independents with a bit of individual character to the chain places (although that said once you get over their almost uniformly surly service I quite like what Nicholson's do with their pubs). Will have a look at the suggestions so far.

As above, the Northcote (on Northcote Road) is reasonable for a few pints but does get busy. There are a few others on that road if that doesn't take your fancy.

I go out here often, and the Duck is always my choice. Their homemade pizza is excellent too.

The Goat, Northcote pub or already mentioned Duck are decent

I've just thought of another one worth a visit if your want decent beer. Usually have about 6-7 draft ales on and a couple of ciders. Bar snacks are very good too.

Battersea Mess and Music Hall is just off Lavender Hill (turn left out of the station, walk up the hill and the pub is down a road on the right).

Cheers, all - the Duck does look good, I like the idea of beer and pizza in a pub setting!

All the above suggestions are good and with no more than 5 minutes walk between them all you're more than covered if any one is too busy/quiet/st
