Occasionally over the next few months I will need to drive from Chichester to somewhere like Watford Junction so that I can go into London for work but at the end of the day quickly get out to drive north. How long would it take via the A3 and M25 setting off about 6.30am? Is somewhere like Watford the best place to park for reasonable costs and access to drive north later?

Thanks for the info but if i did that i might as well drive to work in its entirety. I dont really want to be inside the M25 as I want to be able to make a quick getaway up north after work on these days.

If using the A1 north was any use then Potters Bar is right on the M25 with trains to Kings Cross taking about 20 mins. There's a station car park and you are only 10 mins or so from the A1. Would that work?

I'm thinking about Watford Junction because its less of a journey around the M25? It's the Birmingham that I need to head towards

The one and only time I've done this we parked at Cockfosters - just off M25 J24. Large-ish cheap carpark. Three junctions away from the M1 North on a not-too-busy bit of the M25.

Whereabouts in London do you need to be getting to?

Around Beaconsfield? Jump on the M40 after work and not so much of the M25 to get round on arrival.

Ok try this.
Drive around the m25 and in the a40. Drive to Greenford Road and park up. Greenford station is west end of the central line. You can park for free with a 10 min walk or council pay by phone £2 per day and a 5 min walk. Plenty spaces.
Tube in to Bank and change to northern line to Angel/ kingsX?. This will take about 45-50 mins. Coming home jump on a40 straight to Brum.
