I moved down to London temporarily last year. It then turned permanent and I'm in need of setting up home somewhere. I do currently have somewhere to live but it's a temporary fixture.

So, my issues. 1) I don't know London very well but do like it a lot. 2) I need to be as close to paddington as possible as I commute out (crazy I know). 3) I can't afford my own place. 4) I need a parking space. 6) my limit is about £800

First on the agenda is to get out in the car / tube one weekend and go and get a feel for some places but I have no idea where might be a good starting point. Money seems to restrict me but I'm trying to save to buy another place and can't justify blowing more than this. I also want to actually be able to enjoy myself and could do quite comfortably if I spend this in rent.

I've been on the usual spare room websites but there's so much....and most rooms look like they're in crack dens.

I live in Maida Vale, VERY close to Paddington, and you should be able to find a share close your budget. Street Parking is fine so far - permit £120 odd for the year. Gets cheaper if you go Killburn or stty side of Notting Hill

Cheers. I'll look there. I have a bit of a thing about street parking but its looking like my only option.

With £800 budget try to get a flat share in a modern development with underground parking- owner may not have a car and would negotiate the parking space- they do command reasonable cash though.

W10 - well done. Fabulous part of London, load to do. I had a whale of a time round there from 1989 to 1993. Followed by another four great years in W11.

I still pass through it regularly on my way to and from Loftus Road, watching QPR getting relegated.

Have a drink in the Elgin on Ladbroke Grove.
