I need to travel into London on Friday for 11 am (Chancery Lane) and then need to be at Reading services later in the day.

I will be travelling from Bristol area (along the M4) and therefore thought the best thing to do would be to drive to a station just outside of London and catch the overground / tube for the final leg.

I don't want to go from Reading station as it takes 25 minutes or so to reach from the M4 (especially during traffic at that time).

Therefore can someone recommend the best route to take? I've looked at various stations but am not sure on how much parking will be available. I have also looked at parking near Queensway (just outside of congestion zone) but not sure I want to drive this far into London as I think it could be a nightmare.

Any suggestions?

You could park at Westfield - I can't remember the rate, but for a couple of hours it should be comparable with NCP, if not better.

Access to Central Line (via Shepherds Bush tube) and other lines from White City.
Easy to get to from the A4 and A40 (remember there may be closures around the A4 flyover)

Its a fiver all day ( and £2.50 if under two hours) Mon - Fri in the humungous underground car park at 'Bush Westfield thumbup

Greenford flyover on the A40 has been closed over Christmas, so it would be good to check when this is re-opening as this has caused a wide area of western London to be pretty snarled up over Christmas & NY period.

M4/M25 to Staines then park around the station and jump on the train to Waterloo (45mins)

Don't Bristol to London trains go through Reading anyway? If you're coming from Bristol, why not just get the train all the way, and stop off in Reading on your way back?

Even though it is school holidays this week, I wouldn't drive in to West London given the alternative.

Yes, they do. You can get a bus from central Reading to within a mile of the services and walk the rest of the way.

Pangbourne is your answer. On the Paddington main line, plenty of parking on site at the station, and 10 mins drives to Reading services.

Sorted.

Ah. Hadn't registered the "services" part!

Thanks all, much appreciated. Have done the Staines route before but didn't know if there was a better way.

Like the look of Hammersmith and Pangbourne and will check them out further.

Westfield must of dropped their rates as has my local shopping center at Wimbledon, a quid an hour, but a fiver for a day at Shepherds Bush with the tube and overland on the doorstep has to be a hell of a London bargain parking wise.

I was going to suggest Wembley Park tube station but that's north of the A40. Only £4 a day though and £1.50 at weekends.

Yes, Westfield fixed rates are a lot cheaper than the old hourly ones.
