Hi all, I was thinking of going to see the fireworks in London with some friends as part of the new year celebrations.

Any reccomendations on where to best see them from and where to park (disabled)? I am not from near London and have only ventured into the centre once before!

I was thinking perhaps a late night restaurant overlooking the south bank ( thats where the fireworks are, right)?

Thanks in advance

I'd have thought best of luck to you for a restaurant with a view of the fireworks. I don't know one myself but I'd have expected them to be fully booked.

Yes I expect most/all places are fully booked. If that is the case I still want to go and see the fireworks, even if it means standing on the riverbank.

On the tv coverage of the new years fireworks you can see loads of people standing, waiting to see the fireworks. Where exactly is that?

Lambeth Bridge is a good spot to watch.

You stand on the embankment of the Thames, opposite the London Eye. Some are on Westminster bridge too but this can be cold with the wind down the river.

I did the Embankment a few years back, I didn't realise the crowd barriers keep you behind the tree line, so even with a good spot you'll be looking through branches or tree trunks. There are a couple od decent gaps in the trees if you can get one of those, but Id go for the north/west side Westminster Bridge. Unobstructed views and I think last years display started with fireworks coming from Big Ben, so you'll be very close to that too.

Last year we watched from Parliament Hill. Whilst we didn't get a good view of the "Main" ones, the entire skyline was ablaze for about an hour. It was excellent. Lovely atmosphere up there too.

I think the crowds of people are there for the benfefit of the TV cameras, not to get a good view of the fireworks.

It will be really busy with loads of roads closed up past Holborn etc.
The underground will be working all night so if you can use that.
The areas around the embankment in the area of lambeth, westminster and charingcross will be really busy.
Its the usual advise for london crowds only take what you really need and dress warm. For the women no heels or skirts.

Last year we went to Altitude 360 where the party was in a restaurant up high. Great view of the Thames, London eye. Last I saw tickets were still available.
