Hi, hoping someone with good local knowledge can help me, although I work on the Isle of Dogs and know some of London I live in Norfolk and as a birthday treat for my son the wife has booked tickets to see shrek the musical.

All sounds great until she told me the date.... Next Sunday..! Yep the same day as the London Marathon.

My original plan would have been to drive to my office on the IOD's leave the car at work then hop on the DLR to get to the theatre.

I've never been in London for the marathon but now assume plan A will be an impossibility due to all the road closures.

Can anyone advise of alternative travel plans, we'll be driving in via the M11 so any ideas/suggestions of where to park or catch a tube will be greatly appreciated.

You can still get onto the IOD during the marathon via Preston's Road / Manchester road although they close off half the roundabout between the A1261 and Preston's road. Effectively the west side of the Isle will be closed to traffic including Marsh Wall, Lime Harbour, West Ferry road and East Ferry road as this forms part of the marathon route as will Canary Wharf itself.

Parking may be a challenge though if you can't get access to your office parking. There is an NCP at the top of Marsh Wall after the roundabout coming from Preston's road. They may also make provision to allow access to the Canary Wharf NCP car parks as well. Normally you can find side street parking somewhere off Manchester road although I suspect they may suspend the usual parking regulations.

DLR and Jubilee will be running as usual but depending on the time of day it can get quite busy with spectators and you can sometimes have to walk a way to find a crossing point over the marathon route.

Alternatives, you could try parking at the o2 and getting the jubilee from there or even possibly city airport where you can also catch the DLR.

Hope that helps!

How about Redbridge tube station? Literally right at the bottom of the M11, parking on a Sunday will be no problem . Central line straight into the West End. smile

Thanks everyone, our carpark is on Marsh Wall so think that's going to be a no no.

Redbridge sounds like a great idea. Thanks
