Right, I'm a hairy Northerner with very little experience or knowledge of London - I'm looking at taking MrsSE to a gig at Shepherds Bush Empire on a Tuesday, then off up to the Harry Potter studio tour on the Wednesday before coming home - given the distance between them, I'd rather drive than piss about with coaches from the North...

How much of a ballache is it to get to and park near the Empire? I understand SB isn't part of the congestion charge area, and also that you can park on some yellow lines after 6 or 6-30pm?

Would we be better off finding a hotel on the outskirts and getting the Underground to the Empire?

Actually, looking at it, does staying in the Putney Bridge Premier Inn, then tubing it to and from Shepherds Bush sound sensible?

Whats your budget for accomodation?

You could stay at Putney Bridge but tubing it from there isn't ideal but is doable if you don't mind some contorted tube changes.

That hotel outside putney bridge tube does look horrific btw.

Nearest tubes are:

Shepherds Bush (Central Line)
Shepherd’s Bush (Hammersmith & City Line)

Pick a location on either of those lines and go from there!

Be careful on single yellow lines in London, the rules etc vary all over, read all the signs related to the bay you park on. http://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/london/ might help you.

As someone else said if you go the hotel route might as well look for one on easy tube connection to Shep bush. AFAIK Putney is a bit tube free/poor (district line only).

Also cheaper hotels (travelodge HI express etc) prob won't have a carpark anyway, or if they do it may well be £25 a night or more.

Where is harry potter world anyway? If its West of London then I'd look to stay out the West end of the central line and tube in that way.

FYI there are two seperate tube stations called Shepherds bush on the different lines!

ETA: they have actually now renamed one of them Shepherds Bush Market.

You pair of superstars, thank you! Hadn't even thought of the parking... to be honest we just look at the hotel as a place to sleep, we tend to eat out and disappear early doors.
Definitely going with the find hotel, park there, tube into London idea - poring over a Tube Map and TravelInn-Lodge-Express-Lenny Henry website now.

Thanks again!
