For the last 15 years I've had a family house in Suffolk and my small pied-a-terre in E1. Post divorce, I'm now swapping it the other way around, so small house in Suffolk (for children duties) and bigger house in London.

As its post-diviorce, the budget is small'ish and so I'm looking at East Dulwich and surrounding areas, specifically Honor Oak and Forest Hill. Anyone live in that area that would mind sparing me a few moments for some views on the "nice" bits?

Hi

as Im sure you know there are some lovely houses in the area youre looking at but there are some places worth avoiding. I have to say its improved greatly over the years.

I live in Bromley & work in Clapham so know the area youre thinking of pretty well (drive through it every day & do a lot of business there) but have never lived there. However Im happy to help in any way I can if you want to drop me a line.

More importantly...you bringing the Cerb? Wanna come out to play with the locals? biggrin

Let me know if I can help.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the offer. It's the last day at work here, so if you don't mind I'll keep my questions until the New Year as I'm off to the pub shortly smile

Yes the TVR should be coming with me, I do occasionally bring it to my flat in E1 and it's been spotted around. One of my concerns about the beautiful Victorian houses in the area is that off-road parking is extremely rare. So not sure about the reality of leaving the Cerb on the road.

Hi,

Same here - also happy to help or do a little tour of the area, feel free to drop me a line.

Live in Bromley now as well, but spent 20yrs in Dulwich and the last 5 in Forest Hill so probably well placed to comment.

Also, during that time, parked a variety of M Cars, Porsches, Alfas and Lancias on the road - not entirely without incident, but not as bad as you might think...

I have a few properties in SE23 and the surrounding area. Get off street parking or a garage if you want to keep your baby in good nick. If it's lowered there are just too many speed humps in the back streets. I tend to stick to the main roads for this reason when visiting the area.
Wishing you all the best for your house hunting....

I would recommend Forest Hill over East Dulwich, East Dulwich is to close to Peckham for my liking. However Lordship lane has the better shops and pubs.

Apologies for not returning to this thread earlier, and thank you for all the replies. But I have an update

Last weekend I trundled around East Dulwich, into Honor Oak and down into Forest Hill, lovely houses, but very little in my price range with parking and none with a garage. Many of the lovely big Victorian jobbies are well out of my price range. So I have now cast my net further afield.

Now looking at the Bromley area across to Croydon, so Bromley, West Wickham, Shirley and Wallington. For my budget (400k) I now appear to be able to get a large semi with garage and a decent garden. Way more suitable for the Cerbera wink
West Wickham looks good, just not so sure about the commute (which has to be either Ldn Bridge or Cannon St)

I may very well be calling on those offers of a guided beer tour of Bromley and surrounding areas smile

I Grew up in forest hill, Loved it, a quick train ride into central London but far enough out to be away from the hustle and bustle.
also not far from Bromley and Beckenham ( my local drinking spot)

Dulwich being just down the road,Great bars on lordship lane and a nice place to be.

Still remember though that Catford and Peckham is only a short way away and i stayed around long enough to see these places all change, pretty rough now days.

Spend most of my time out in biggin hill now although still work central and i love it there.

A true London boy at heart but i am loving the fresh air and greenery smile
