Afternoon Dear Londoners!

I need to be at Gatwick for about 6am this Friday, I'm staying at a friends on the Thursday night, which is a minute or two walk from the tube, but the first tube isn't till 5:54.

What would be the best/cost effective/reliable way to get to Gatwick at that time in the morning? I'm not exactly loaded, so hiring a mapped 335d isn't on the cards!

To be honest I doubt there's a cheap way. As it'll take a while to get to a train line that's running the only cheap method may be to leave on the last evening tube and hang around the airport over night.

A cab from Camden to Victoria should be £10-£15 (or save a few quid and get a 24 bus which runs all night) then get the Gatwick Express which apparantly runs from 3:30 onwards. I can't remember exactly how much the Gatwick Express costs (£18?).

Should be about £30 all in.

If you can beg/borrow/steal a car then I find it's much the same cost but a lot less hassle to drive to the airport and park it up for the duration of your trip (unless you're going for a long time).

Gents,

I thank you for your advice! Looks like a right ballache on the train! So have taken the executive decision to drive and leave the car. It's £90 from the 9th-21st, which when compared to the train from Birmingham the night before, the taxis/trains etc at £136 (for two) is more money and more hassle!

A true pistonheads result!

I'll bring you all a Toblerone for your troubles!
