there was a thread ages ago, I did a search but PH is a bloody nightmare for searching mad
anyway...It is something I've been meaning to do for ages but never got round to it.

We are going to do a bit of a evening Tour around the city this weekend, not overly sure what we'll see of the City in the dark but there you go

does anyone have any pointers please, to help me layout a bit of a route?

thank you in advance

Do it all.. Keep driving round, you'll just keep finding new things.

Harrods is alright earlier on in the night, proper night its dead around there usually.

The Mall is weird if the lights are off, very, very dark and no road markings either so feels even wider than it usually is.

Are you planning on utilising the tunnels?

As you appear to be coming from Newbury.

M4 A4 will bring you into town past Harrods,Hyde park corner, turn left up Park lane for Marble arch or continue

to Piccadilly circus ,left up Regents street or leftish up Shaftesbury avenue [theatreland]or

right ,go down Haymarket to Trafalgar square smile

"Stitch" the Thames - Go South over one bridge, drive to the next bridge and go North. Rinse and repeat until you get to Dartford.

I hate with a passion driving in London...in the day that is.
At night is awesome to drive around. The sound of an exhaust bouncing off the walls of historic buildings is very nice too.

I just love the big city bright lights feel you get at night when its all lit up with not a huge deal of traffic about.

Yes, we'll be heading in via the M4.
You make it sound a lot more straight forward than my sat nav!

Cheers

Sat Nav is abit unhelpful in London whilst touring.. I found it easiest to just guess where I was going hehe

What time were you planning on going?

Don't forget to stop in the middle of Waterloo Bridge, get out and look around. It is quite a sight at night in both directions of the river.

Just drive round the Kingston one-way system and include the John Lewis tunnel until you run out of petrol; fuel up in Hampton Wick/Shell then repeat?

we'll probably aim to get into the City for around 20:00 (or is that too early?)

you don't think it is worth setting a .itn (using TYRE)...Am I better off just following my nose and road signs?

I did the old roadsigns thing, but its up to you WRT satnav. I enjoyed it just driving around finding things and places, but for certain things you want to see.. Buckingham Palace/Mall, Harrods, Eye.. It'll probably be a good idea to have already programmed into the nav incase you get bored trying to find them yourself smile

8pm I'd say is early, but might be worth asking Shmee if the Harrods lot are still around as you could waste an hour around there looking at the cars. I personally go around 10-11pm as its quieter, not so much traffic on the streets.

cheers jonny, I'm such a tourist biggrin

looking on google street view there are a lot of Red lines (no stopping, obviously) but is there anywhere in the center you can just park-up (without a residents permit)?
