Hi guys, next week I am organising a little "London at night" jaunt for about 20 kitcars. Need a bit of help route wise! Many are bike engined, so several tunnels are a must... :-)

General route is starting going north over Tower Bridge about 9pm, then take in a bit of the Olympic park, Docklands / Canary Wharf, then ending up doing a nice colourful / noisy lap of Soho.

Need some advice route wise if possible, but also of a pub en route not to far from the river where we can congregate and have a "light refreshment". Must have parking for the cars or a side street that is not wardened to death. Last resort will have to be a drive through McDonalds but would like somewhere with a bit more decorum!!

Thanks for any advice, Lee

Long time since I've done a London Tunnel Run, but a few thoughts.

Be very, very careful with speed limits. Most of the tunnels have average speed cameras or normal cameras, many digital.

Be wary of what night you are doing it. Sunday-Thursday nights the Blackwall Tunnel is closed southbound from 9pm and traffic is diverted via Rotherhithe, so avoid these tunnels unless you want to sit in traffic.

Nice underpass on the A12 East Cross Route at Hackney that takes you near the Olympic Village.

Behave well - no recent experience but I would be wary of travelling in large groups at night without informing the police in case of blanket S59s slapped on us frown

Used to be a lot of parking on Chelsea Bridge, good place to meet. Likewise, near the O2 in Greenwich.

You might want to PM Hughesie(??) for entry to the Tunnel Runners forum for a better (more discreet!) response!

Have fun & stay safe.

Thanks mate, that's some good advice. No we are not planning on speeding, we get out speed fix properly elsewhere... :-)

Just purely sightseeing London all lit up, hearing a couple of tunes in the tunnels, and soaking up the atmosphere.

Bermondsey Street tunnel before going over Tower Bridge would be a good idea, and Weston Street, but avoid Stainer Street as it is likely to be busy. There's a chance that these will disappear when Network Rail redevelop the station so enjoy them while you can. None of them have speed cameras, but the pedestrians/cyclists might be upset if they're in the tunnel as the same time as you lot!

Parking by the river close to the cars is harder. The Angel (close to Rotherhithe Tunnel) is an option, as you can park in the street or in the car park.

The Strand underpass can be fun, with some enjoyable twisty bits if there's no traffic and you are doing more leptons than advisable.
