Westminster Council Nazis - new parking charges
Discussion
Haven't seen a thread. There's probably one with the title "Aubergines - don't you just hate them" about Westminster Council's new parking charges.

While it doesn't bother or affect me, it is yet another example of people in public services who really do not have a clue about the economy particularly at ground level. I feel sorry for the small businesses in the area. Remind me who pays their salaries again?
Oh, and expect it to come to a town near you.

Another "we had a consultation but will go ahead and do what we like anyway" situation.
Do we think any of the business were consulted or voted for it?
Was listening to someone from Westminster council yesterday on the radio, stating this is affecting just a very small area south of Oxford Street around Soho and Mayfair. Yet he said he stood a few weeks ago looking at the 100's of yards of traffic on New Cavendish Street. If the new restrictive parking plans are in such a small area, how's this going the help traffic congestion? There's going to be more demand for the spaces on the outskirts of the new area.
More double yellow lines on their way, less single yellows, more fines for people parking up at 9,10,11pm without thinking to look at the signs.
They talk about people staggering their journeys to avoid adding to rush hours, so anyone coming into town in the evening to work is now going to be hit, especially those who work till after public transport has finished.
Probably a four hour max on the meters,so going out for the evening and parking up before 8pm is not going to be possible, although you can now "feed" the meter in Westminster, but not sure if this is just up to the maximum four hours?

Yep, we had a similar thing here (Surrey County Council), we had a petition of 25,000 (I think you needed 15,000 for a proposal to be reviewed). So, yep, they called another meeting and essentially said, "Yes, we're still gonna do it."
This morning I drove into work because the trains don't start running early enough.
I parked on single yellows as the gates to our works car park were being replaced. Luckily most of the time I have a parking space in our basement.
I noticed that the coach bay outside St Pauls has been bricked up.
Also noticed loads of coaches around theatreland now relying on single yellows as well.
What's going to happen to them and the hundreds of deep pocketed tourists they bring in each weekend?
Seems like a backward step to me.

L B of Camden Have said that if Westminster implement the night charges then they will be forced(!) to also implement it to stop people who parked in Westminster from moving their cars to Camden. Absolute B*llox of course. In addition, Camden has one of the highest Council tax charges.

Didn't realise this. Has it affected businesses?
Don't know TBH, but its pissed a lot of people off! Its a strange system because its only everywhere south of the station so directly aimed at the theatre crowd etc. Everything north of station has the normal 6.30-7pm limit.jimmyjam said:

I bet. How come there wasn't enough objection? Surrey County Council tried it and were virtually accused of being Nazi paedo Taliban global warming believer extremists and trying to destroy England (I mighta been the one who said that ). 25k in an online poll made them review things and they've since backed down.Well I can only guess that because its also a residential area all around it, those with parking permits were getting upset when everyone was parking down their road to go and see The Hoff at panto, so this way they get to have the roads patrolled up till 11pm and no one can park in the residents bays?
What would have been fairest is for just the residents bays to be protected till 11pm but that alone wouldn't be financially worthwhile the wombles patrolling alone and far more profitable to lump in all the other meters and carparks too! Double whammy!

I find it hard to feel sorry for people who have houses near shops. They want the benefit of being close to services so should just suck it up. Ultimately, what may happen is the shops they have the benefit of go out of business and they are screwed. Also, it means they can't have visitors. Stupid, really.
