Hi Have been asked by an overseas friend to assist with the following, 6 days vacation in London this coming July. He is looking for a hotel room/apartment at Paddington or Bayswater area which can accommodate 2 adults & 2 small children age 4 and 6. The budget is around GBP700 for 5 nite stay, naturally he would like to find the best hotel he can for in or near his budget, any reccomendations please.

Nothing specific but I'd try to stay as close to Marble Arch, Queensway/Bayswater, Notting Hill Gate as possible, ie 100-200m away, because they are on the Central Line and are close to shops, restaurants etc.

Notting Hill Gate might have some OK places by the tube, which isn't as trendy as you might think and therefore could be reasonable. There used to be a hotel called Sunrise or similar near the tube that was OK although the rooms were small.

Lancaster Gate will be OK but it's quiet. Paddington is a bit of a dump IMHO.

Just remembered a friend owns this near Marble Arch:

I haven't spoken to her for a year or two but I've stayed at the B&B and it's clean and the rooms are big. It's off Edgware Road so food/transport are easy. The landlady is from Hong Kong and she is very pleasant. PM if you want the number to book direct unless you can track the details down on the internet.

Thanks for your reply, Budget has just been increased to 1200 for the stay which makes things easier, from searching i have reccomended the Park Plaza but its out of his area, it overlooks the London Eye which i think is about 5 miles or so from Paddington / Bayswater, Unfortunatly few places seem to have the family rooms.

Tough call...

Depending on when in July, this might fall into his budget (though it fluctuates between this price and ~£1400)

Park Plaza impressed me when I stated there. 5 miles? It's 10 mins onthe tube Paddington to Waterloo.

Have you tried the Hilton London Hyde Park? It's on the corner of Bayswater Rd overlooking Hyde Park. I used to do a lot of work there for Hilton and it used to have some family rooms, though I'd expect one 'put you up' bed for one of the kids.
