Using Elise as only car in family

Hello,

My wife and I are seriously thinking about trading our Golf VR6 for Elise. Since we live in Honolulu, Hawaii, parking space is limited and we can have only one car. This means, Elise must handle everything we do in our Golf VR6. Is there anyone out there who are using Elise as "only" car in family?

Honolulu sounds far more plesant than rainy Scotland !

I dont own an elise yet (but been in plenty) ... strikes me that it maybe an issue running the elise as the "only" family car .... i.e family = 2 people + child and there are only 2 seats in the elise.

There has been a few posts about child seats this year, I dont know how legal they are but someone will know.

I used my S1 as my only car for 50,000 UK miles in every UK weather condition and it was fine.
Sure, moving wardrobes will not be easy but that's obvious.
Many many people here have an Elise as an only car in the UK and it's not an issue.
The S1 is a much harsher, noisier car than an S2 so you'll be fine.

Buy one, you'll not regret it.

Don't know about an Elise, but I've been using my M100 Elan as my daily drive here in northern Virginia for the last 2 years, and it seems perfectly practical to me.

Suppose the question has to be, how often did you use the back seats in the Golf?

When I had mine, I used it every day in central London.

Lots of parking was a bit of a pain because of the unassisted steering.
They're small though, so you can fit them in tiny spaces which compensates.

Leave your roof at home (as I guess you'll be able to) and the boot (trunk!) is perfectly useable.
Other than that, no issues, just fantastic fun.
You'll certainly never settle for a Golf again...

Well you could always look at the new europa s .. Not nearly as attractive as the elise, but much more practical as your only car

Shouldn't be an issue unless you do a lot of shopping as the trunk space is not the greatest.

can't say what it'd be like running an Elise as the only car.. but here's some points from experience.
for weekends away. you can't fit any kind of suitcase (except in the passenger footwell)..squashy bags work well..or shopping bags are even better (but maybe not so good when you arrive). The boot is plenty big enough for general shopping, although cases of beer and large items would have to go in footwell..but remove the suitcase first. the soft-top takes about 1/3rd of the boot space or can be persuaded to fit behind the seats.
have spend weekends away on the continent (am UK based) and managed to squeeze everything in for 2 of us and somehow squeezed a case of wine (under my OH's feet) on the way back.
i guess you need friends, or rent a car, for those occasions when you've something bigger to get.
seems a bit negative - brilliant cars!! - I have a family so we need a second vehicle
