Ring in the New Year by planning for LOG 26 in Ft. Worth, Texas

LOG 26 will be held at the Marriott Solano Hotel in Ft. Worth, Texas from October 13-17th. For those counting on their fingers, yes, that is an extra day.

We can't give all the details yet but: Ft. Worth is in North Texas and the western half of the Dallas-Ft-Worth Metroplex. The city is most famous as an enormous cattle shipping center now known as the Stockyards. The city had a lot of well-to-do oil and cattle families that have donated extensively to some of the countries finest historical mansions, art museums, and old west historical locations. Typical temperature range is 60 to 80 degrees. Ok, so much for the brochure.

Ft. Worth is also home to Texas Motor Speedway, and the Texas Motorsports Ranch. (Ranch will be part of a theme.) Friday will be the usual arrival, sign in, meet and greet, and attempt to find the faces that go with all the help on the Lotus lists. Saturday will find tech sessions with a few surprises and a concours held at the Circle R Ranch (it’s that ranch thing again.) The Circle R has wide-open space with indoor and outdoor facilities large enough to hold all the cars in case of little precipitation (not likely). It also has real cattle and a barn that happens to be a great place for Texas BBQ. From there we move back to the hotel for the evening’s festivities and libations.

Sunday is the autocross, which will be hosted and run by the DFW SCCA. For those of you who like racing in parking lots wondering which curb or light pole has your name on it, sorry, this year’s autocross will be held on the infield course at Texas Motor Speedway. Expect a longer faster course. No corner workers will be required and we will run as a group.

After autocross will be time for visiting local sites, the bar or preparing for track days. This year, track day will be two days for the price of one (everything is supposed to be bigger in Texas). The Texas Motorsports Ranch will allow cars and trailers to be moved there for safekeeping (about 45 miles from the hotel) and inexpensive hotels are available near the track for the participants. We also have some surprises planned for track day that just won't fit into one day.

As this is the fortieth anniversary of the introduction of the Europa, and there seem to me more of them in Texas than any other state. The Europa will be the car of LOG 26. Bring one bring all.

Look for more details in Remarque in May or June. Start exchanging pictures so you know what your online friends actually look like, and plan to come to Texas Oct 13-17th.
