How much do you think the 2005 lotus elise will go down in value between now and 2008

Not a whole lot. Maybe a couple of thou at the dealers who are stuck with 05 inventory but not much beyond that. IMHO private sales will show a well sorted, low mileage car, holding a good value.
If you are interested in buying one the best thing to do is be actively searching, have the cash on hand, and be ready to act quickly.
Advantage of buying an un-titled car is you can take full advantage of the warranty and you don't have to worry about how the previous owner truly handled the car. The chances of finding the proverbial little old lady who ony drove it on Sunday to church are slim to none, and Slim left town.

My guess is it will be a high demand used car and hold it's value well, you pay $48K for it today and take care of it with reasonable mileage in 2008 you'll probably depreicate ten grand. Used Mustang V6's are a dime a dozen in the states and much cheaper than a good, clean used V8 GT. Go to www.edmunds.com/ and punch in a 2003 V6 and V8 and you'll see what I mean.

How do they compare to the Elise in terms of cost to run? The Esprit looks easier to ingress. If the engine scary to maintain?
