Jay Leno's Alloy Engine Block & Six-Speed for Lotus Elan
Discussion
On his Garage website, with the help of a highly professional restorer/engineer named, Dr. Jim Hall -- Jay Leno is building a high-performance Lotus Elan using a 2-liter alloy block. Presumably, it is an alloy Ford Kent block. Does anyone know the source of this alloy block? Secondly, Leno is using a six-speed sequential gearbox. What is the source of this gearbox? Many thanks to those Lotus enthusiasts who know so much more than I do.
Thanks for the introduction to Burton Power - apparently based in London. I found one alloy block described thus:
BDG 2.0 aluminium alloy block. Manufactured from new Cosworth/Ford castings, these castings incorporate the Ford logo. Supplied with liners fitted and bored to finished size of 90mm. Two bolt type steel main caps are also fitted.
This could well be the block being used by Jay Leno and Dr. Jim Hall. The video on the NBC site that deals with the engine block simply is not available. I have sent an email to Burton Power for more information.
