Fuel pump problems....

Hi Guys,

I started the car earlier with no probs, reversed out of the workshop, and left her on idle. After about a minute, she suddenly stopped, then refused to start. On trying to start, I can no longer hear the fuel pump prime, but I can hear a relay click once (pump relay?)....

Have checked the large yellow connector under the steering column, and it's fine.

The yellow relay seems to be fine, although I can't find the diode/resister people mention in previous posts.

Help!! What do I need to check etc?

Seems clear that there is an issue with the fuel pump, but where should I start?

When you checked the yellow connector you did seperate the 2 halves and look inside?

as Chris says can you pull it appart, mine looked ok ,but was WRONG
got it appart and was burnt inside so off it went

I unplugged it, but will do as you suggest - sounds as though I should replace it with a choc-block anyway?

Definitely not the yellow connector - double checked it and changed for choc-blocks just for good measure....

I suppose the next step is to try the pump by powering it direct?

If that works, then change the fuel pump relay??

Hope you don't really mean "choc-block" you will be storing up a whole load of new problems if you start using those on the car. Soldering, crimps or proper connectors is the way to go.

Relieved.
Some heat shrink tubing is a good idea also, much better and neater than insulation tape. Maplins do a range of sizes fairly cheaply.
