What is involved in having the chassis waxoilled by someone such as Peninsula, do they strip the rust and loose paint off first and then seal it? And at what stage is it not worth doing and waiting for a full chassis restoration? I must admit to being a bit clueless in the maintenance department.
Ive taken the plunge....doing that job that is always put off for another season. Cleaning all the old flake coating and surface rust off and cleaning the chasis with small dremmel sanding disks.
It does the job very well but is time consuming. Then re-painting with thick coats of hammerite, then taking it to be Waxoiled.
Waxoil - a job I could do but my local guy says he can do it with clear waxoil on the whole chasis for £70 so i reckon its easier to let him. They warm it up so that it is runny and then use a gun & pump to reach all those odd places. very useful as you cant quite get to everywhere when re-painting the chasis.
I would suggest you either ask them to get the loose stuff off first or do it yourself. You dont need to go to the extreme that I have, it just needs the loose stuff off if your chasis is sound already.

OK, I'm trespassing but I did have an S3 once...
My Griff is in fairly good nick, but to keep it like that underneath, I took it down to my local tyre and exhaust place in the autumn. I just asked them to put it up on the ramp, clean off all the year's oil, muck and grit and then waxoyl anything metal. No great talent required, and they were pleaseed to work on something more interesting than the average Ford Escort etc.
