Broken V8S On eBay Going Cheap

Has anyone seen this easy repair broken V8S on eBay?

Bit grubby under the bonnet but looks like was pretty tidy, hood and interior look good ?

However, call me cynical but is he not showing this straight opn because of chassis damage? V8 owners; is that engine where its supposed to be?

What concerns me is that it seems that the slightest bit of a bump which causes fibreglass damage is then a write-off. The same thing with the car Norman has taken on for repair. Both these are front end damage, which is a simple repair given that the bonnet is so easy to remove. Almost certainly, if you get rear-ended requiring more complex repair, the car will be scrapped. Very sad.

look at the swirlpot. Is that the pot itself bent over, or the mounting plate and/or chassis? The far side of the radiator looks crushed as well - not easy to replace and impossible to recore if the ends are damaged.

Maybe still not that difficult (depending if the chassis is damaged), but not as easy as just replacing the bonnet.

I'd still be tempted to have a look if it was closer...

I noticed the wheels, and thought the fan didn't look right but couldn't put my finger on it... wonder if the radiator has been forced out, and chucked back in upside down?

It has the later long doors though, swirl pot in middle of chassis, battery not under bonnet...

I've seen that car before somewhere - red V8S with slots - even the start of the reg rings a bell. Chatsworth or S Club? Can't see it in any of my photos though.

Looks like the chassis and the mounting plate to me. If it's just that top tube though it's only a very fiddly precise repair job rather than a huge one. Bonnets aren't cheap though and there may be damage lower down on the chassis and to the wishbones and steering rack on the side they haven't taken a photo of.

Wants a couple of thousand spending on it though.

If you mean that far back yes thats how it is, very tight up to the bulkhead, and the engine slants back, it looks normal to me.

I think the fan has broken and has just been chucked under the bonnet.

Doesn't look very loved under the bonnet though - the hose coming off the front of the swirl pot looks a bit of a bodge.

There are V8S's out there with the slot alloys as some prefer them

I'd say you're about right.

A new bonnet from TET is about a grand, then you've got the cost of trimming it, fitting it, prep and paint etc. That's before you look at the radiator, fan, chassis, wishbones and rack.

Then as Barkychoc says, you're going to want to tidy up that engine and those wishbones etc - it does look a bit neglected. There again, I've seen cars in a worse underbonnet state than that, win "best S2" before, so all would not be lost!

I'd still be tempted to have a look if I was closer (and if I didn't have 2 TVRs already...)

My guess is the seller is not even in posession of the car yet!
Why you ask?
Well, it was only sold yesterday on the Copart salvage auctions, I saw the details at the weekend and was going to ask a friend, in the trade, who uses that very auction to watch it but unfortunately forgot, so have no idea what it did. Before ya say it I know I'm a dumbass!
Anyways, it was listed as a 290S, probably what the logbook says but we all know that means nothing.
The PICS in the Ebay listing are the same ones from the salvage auction site. Nothing new at all.

I'm not sure - it looks as if the engine has been shunted back. The throttle linkage on the back of the plenum allows for (my fat) fingers just to pass behind it........... this looks too close. The swirl pot being bent over isn't the end of the world. The fan coming adrift from its mounts is also fairly cosmetic.

The photos may show that the engine has been shunted or the chassis elements bent.

Sadly, if so I'd suggest its knackered Another one less. Again.

For the record, the V8S brochure shows it wearing mag slots

The copart auction (when I have seen it) is a virtual one. Sometimes three auctions running at the same time online from different facilities around the country. Chap I know buys his stock, sends a cheque and has vehicles delivered. Funny setup but seems to work. Can be frustrating for the uk buyers though as prices can go through the roof sometimes with European bidders, especially Eastern Europe.

I have spoken to the vendor and the car wont arrive untl Friday at earliest. He says if he doent get £4k he will keep the car and repair as he has sold one recently for £9k!!!!!!

However he told me that it is a very rare car!!!!!!!!

Again he says no chassis damage but my feeling is that he has bought it sight unseen as he seemed to unaware of radiator damage.

£4k looking like that? Not of my bloomin' money! 5Yrs ago maybe but not now. Agricultural machinery dealer chancing his luck. Can you tell I love Landrovers?

As much as I love my S I would never dream of coughing up that sort of spondulics for cat D, as that is all it will ever be. A griff was sold two weeks ago with the same sort of damage for £4500 so its a no brainer.
