I have been thinking about this for a while now as I reckon that a lot of the hot air that goes through the radiator gets sucked up by the air filter. This is my prototype shield to hopefully block the radiator exit and also channel some cold air straight into the filter.
This is my template with all sizes etc but the angles I am not sure about, the "flap" on the left needs to be full height so that you can tailor the mounting to suit your car.
I basically made it from a piece of sheet plastic which I cut as above and then heated it and shaped it to the shape you see here. I intend to dress the edges with some form of trim and then decide wether the prototype will be permanent or make another neater shield, what do you think ?

I've been mulling over the best design for a cold air intake for quite a while now but I must admit that is a lot simpler than the method i was thinking of! I like what you've done, blocks the hot rad air and is simple.

What I did on mine is put a box around the bottom and sides of the radiator extending forwards to the grill, and a corresponding top panel attached to the bonnet which shuts against them. (You can't do it in one piece because the bonnet moves through that space when it opens.) Then I extended the panels sideways until they meet the plywood former on both sides, so there is one big central space feeding the radiator, and smaller spaces on either side. On the passenger's side I have put a 3" pipe through with a filter on the 'cold' side. On the driver's side I have the oil cooler. This stops warm air from the engine bay from recirculating back through the radiator, and gives a separate cold air supply to the engine intake and oil cooler.
It's not a brilliant picture but this should give you some idea how the cold air feed dodges between the wheelarch, and the radiator.
