Door Re-hanging

A couple of days ago noticed the passenger side door was almost impossible to close. Had a quick look and it seemed that the door must have dropped as the catch was just banging when trying to close door. So yesterday afternoon, having been out for a short run in the sun, had a more detailed look and come to the conclusion that I would have to take my courage in both hands and have a go, especially as I have passed myself off as the guro on the door hinge. So decided today was the day.

However today was bl:censor:ed cold so put off starting until after lunch hoping that it might just warm up, no such luck so wrapping up like the Michelin Man I approached the car. Opened the passenger door and noticed the forked lock thingy seemed a bit stiff. Tried to move by hand - almost impossible and thought I wonder if this is part of the problem.

Soaked the mechanism from the outside with WD40 and then penetrating oil, clamped a mole wrench on to the thingy and wiggled it back and forward. Retired to a warm house for a while and had a cup of tea. Went back outside and applied more WD40 and penetrating oil and waggled some more. Retired to a warm house for a while and had a cold beer. Then tried the lock again - worked perfectly - tried closing the door - worked perfectly.

So the moral of the story is check the blding obvious before embarking on a major job. Put car away hoping for a better day tomorrow and retired yet again to the loo.
