Morning all.
A lovely day in Herefordshire this morning after three days of rain so I thought I'd get the Tiv out on the road for the spin to work..

..started fine, but Idled on the drive at 2200rpm.. normally this is 1000rpm or lower. Thought she'd settle down after a few blips of the throttle but no.. 2200rpm.

I drove for five miles with this problem and finally having been slowing the revs with the engine, after about 15 minutes running time suddenly back to normal.. phew.

Next.. a nice straight bit of road so I thought I'd experiment for the "what speed" thread we've been doing.. spin up nicely through the gears and I'm doing 4000rpm and 90-95 on the speedo (it was bouncing a bit)... all happy.

Then 1 minute later the rev counter bounces from 3500 - 0 - 3500 and then falls silent 0.. and about 1 minute after that the speedo jumps about a bit 110 - 50 - 90 and then follows suit to 0.. I drive the remaining 5 miles with no guages

During the last mile or so in the traffic queues, she's not to happy either, no problems with idling (well a bit lumpy), but the engine kept hunting and lurching when I was transferring between go and slow (ie foot down to backing off on the accelerator)

No problems other than that.. and I had a splendid race on the Cheltenham inner ringroad too.. completely by accident I lined up beside a bike and a DB7.. all having a bit of a rev at some lights...
Results: Bike.. Me.. DB7

Any ideas on the guages etc chaps ????

Cheers,
Matt.

I just talk to myself round here

The speedo's working again, but the rev counters still dead... Idling is lumpy and it often sticks at 2200rpm, but if I switch off the ignition and start it up again it sits fine at just below 1000.. (albeit a bit lumpy)

Anyone?

Sounds like an electrical problem, maybe caused by dampness or by corrosion from past dampness. I'd start by cleaning the earth in front of the passenger's footwell, and make sure the ECU and relay connections are all sound. If in doubt a good squirt of WD40 over all the connectors in the footwell will do no harm and may do some good.
