Rolling Road Tuning

I am looking to get my S3c rolling road tuned in the spring, I am based in Derby and don't want to travel massive distances to get this done, I know Austec have a good reputation but they are miles away and not sure if they do the S! and I believe a lot of the TVR tuning companies specialise in the RV8 and speed 6 engine. Does anyone know of somewhere relativley near by (less than 100 miles) that will do this and understand the 2.9 V6 and EEC1V and have a good experience of their work ? Thanks in advance guys.

Yes they do .... and you'll love every mile of the drive home !

As you say, all the glossy ads in Sprint seem to be aimed at RV8's and newer

You could try Raceproved at sheffield, don't know if they do the cologne though.

Sounds to me like you need an old school Ford tuning specialist rather than a TVR specialist. Surely there's one near you?

Raceproved in Sheffield do tune the cologne I believe - or they did when I made enquiries last year.

I'm planning to take mine there in early March to get everything set up right prior to my MOT. Will be happy to report back on how it goes

Yes, yes and...er...um....yes!
According to google maps, 65 miles from Derby will take you to Northampton, which is the home of the cunningly named Northampton Motorsport. They've lots of experience of these engines and I know they've done a couple of S's including mine - when it left it was 172bhp on the rollers. You may know this already but beware, rolling roads stress the engine and can reveal/cause some issues

My S2 was tuned by Austec on their rolling road and came out at 171bhp. Very few of us ever use the maximun hp or torque so I dont think I will be putting my old girl through it again, I've heard of to many older engines going 'pop'. Of course you sign a disclaimer first so they just give it back to you in a box with no come back. A good service and tune by a good mechanic should be sufficent, or am I in the minority here? . Why risk an engine for something you may never use?

I agree. Mine was done just before I got it, not sure if I'd want to do it myself unless the car was obviously down on power and there was a problem

If its an S3c and is healthy it more or less tunes itself - thats what the lambda probes do in the exhaust - they measure the gas coming out of the engine and retune the mixture accordingly.

It could be worth having a full engine service, and if they haven't been replaced recently change the plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm. You will be amazed how much smoother it can make the engine if they are a bit tired.

Thanks for all your replies, I agree that my car effectivley "tunes itself" but it does seem to be a bit "fluffy" at mid throttle and despite having a new ISCV it will not idle below about 1200rpm, the throttle body has been cleaned etc all plugs are about 1500 miles old leads, cap etc are all good, my thinking is a rolling road tuner up by someone who understands fords EECIV should be able to rectify these problems.

Ayou sure you dont have an air leak on the induction or even the servo or the vacuum take off pipe from the plenum chamber?

I have looked for air leaks as the symptoms would suggest that as you say, but there isn't any at all unless I am being thick, the servo is ok and all pipes are also good with no splits.

You could also consider an old-fashioned Crypton/Suntune of the engine.

My neighbour, who was ex-Ford main dealership had such a machine(and knew how to use it).

Your timing can be adjusted to the optimum for your particular engine, and all ignition components checked without any stress to the engine.

It revealed one bad plug on my 280i that I'd otherwise never have known about, and after a new plug and a few small adjustments to timing the car ran altogether better.

Then again, the only problems I've heard about as regards rolling roads have been more to do with diesels and turbocharged cars.

I had my RV8-powered Wedge set up on a rolling road, resulting in another 15bhp being released, along with correct fuelling...something just as likely to damage your engine if it's running too weak at higher revs.

Just to say I took my car down to Raceproved in Sheffield - what a fantastic bunch of guys, really helpful & the rolling road was great - really involved me in what they were doing & why Would recommend them to anyone who wants their pride & joy checked over on a rolling road

Car now all set up & ready for the amzing summer we're going to have

As an added bonus today the car passed it's MOT today
