V8S sump plug size

As the title says, does anyone know the size of the V8S sump plug? I need to purchase a ring spanner to remove the same.

Had exactly the same issue last week. If I recall it's approx 31mm with gearbox drain plug being even bigger approx 33mm. In the end I bought an adjustable spanner from screwfix in order to do both of them.

I'd much rather use a socket the right size than an adjustable - the adjustables never really fit properly and won't take much torque before they start damaging the head. The magnetic plugs that Steve sells work well (I've got one) but if you want an even more posh alternative you can get a plug with a dry-break connector from difflock so you don't need to take the plug out at all.

Now they look good, I am concerned about access to it though, as wouldn't the exhaust get in the way?

Haven't tried fitting one and couldn't say for sure without offering it up, but they offer a connector with a sharp bend in to clear one of the Land Rover chassis rails so I wouldn't expect any problem. On the V8S at least, there's a fair bit of space around the sump plug.

seen then advertised in UK mags. might be some ground clearance issues on a TVR ?

Just checked these out and the UK distributor has a statement on their site saying that these are not recommended for the Rover V8 as it would block off two small drilled holes that allow drainage to occur from the bottom of the sump (where all the nasties lay). Shame is it looked a nice easy solution.

Thanks Mike, very timely. I have just ordered one of the round magnetic plugs from Steve Heath. I hope the guys Chim is OK.
