Tyres/Shock Absorbers

Hi All,I'm seeking some advice on sourcing. During the last MOT there were a number of advisories most of which I have sorted, leaving only a replacement set of front tyres (rears look to be nearly new) and a slight misting of oil on the near side shock absorber.

The tyres currently on the front are Bridgestone 205/60/ZR15 and on the rear Bridgestone 225/50ZR16. As I am replacing just the front, do I need to keep the same tyres or can I use a different make provided they are on the same axle? Also anyone got any advice on the best places/site to look in terms of quality and price.

Finally, while the shock absorber is only an advisory I think I will change it. The shockers currently on the car look like the original Koni adjustable ones and I would like to keep them the same. Can anyone tell me the part number for the fronts and the best place to source a set.

Front 15" rears 16", are you sure? What wheels are they?

Should be OK for different tyres front to rear but personally I would stick to the same. This thread might help but I would be more concerened about the age of the rubber

Its an after market set you will have to have and that means changing all four, speak to Derek at Absolute Shocks http://www.absolutelyshocks.com/ he cant be more helpful

Norman, Thanks for the reply. The wheels are from a Chimaera, already on the car when purchased. The measurements I listed where taken from the tyres.Is it a problem having different sizes front to rear?

Having checked further it seems the back shockers are AVO so I assume the front ones are the same.While the rears have a label the front ones do not. Is the e-mail adress you gave good for all shocks and will I need to buy new springs.........Sorry for all the questions but it has been years since I actually owned a car, lucky enough to have a company one.

Look at the spacing between the spring coils - original springs are variable rate so at one end the coils are close together getting progressively further apart towards the other end.

After market springs are single rate and have consistent spacing between the coils from one end to the other.

I guess not as long as the car feel and handles OK

Nigel is the person to contact at AVO I took my AVO's there and they checked and rebuilt as necessary, they might be able to put new seals in the leaking one (if its AVO) and save you some dosh
