Been having idling problems over the last couple of weeks and have gone down the normal pot, aux air valve, air flows and dizzy etc path and still no joy.

So decided to pop round and see Mark at Tower to plug into his fault reader and see what was going on. Had been running without the pot as that seemed to help.....well until this morning when it was a complete ct !

Well bless it ! When it got there and we reconnected the throttle pot it all ran fine !!!!!!!! Arse !!!!!!!! Of course it would. After an hour of swapping ECU's and fault code readers etc etc Finally it registered a fault...code 13.....which transpires to be the Engine Temp Sensor. I had changed this about 10,000 miles ago as I was doing a few other bits. It now seems that this is whats been causing the running problems.

Due to the ECU not really knowing what temp the engine is running at it buggers all the other settings as it doesn't know what mixture etc etc etc

So go to Ford dealer and find they're all closed today at 12 o'clock to do end of year stock take !!!!!!

Wers !!!!!

So now I'm off to Castle Combe tomorrow still with an engine not running right !!!

Bloody Fords !!!

I'd have thought you could probably stop at any Ford dealer on the way to pick it up, must be a dozen on your route open on a saturday.
Just a thought.

Can this item not be found at a local autofactor? Specialist part? Too rare? Too old?

Got the part !!

Mate of mine got it in Maidstone and whipped out and picked it up. I bought a new Aux Air Valve at the same time. Fitted that first and no difference. So then fitted the Temp sensor and still no difference !!!

wer !!!!!

I have a feeling that I have a loom problem with the connector around the area under the coil. Known for it !!! That may be what caused the fault code...

Will report back once solved, but probbly going to end up back at Tower View ! I'm away a lot over the next couple of weeks so it wouldn't be a bad time.

As long as it gets me to Combe on Saturday and Donington on Sunday it can sit there until they've space.

Cheers

Something worth checking is the state of the breather pipe that goes from the plennum chamber (i think that's what it's called... the big silver thing on top of the engine) along the right hand side of the engine (looking from the front of the car), round the dizzy and into the top of the left rocker cover. Mine was in a bit of a state and was also routed badly so occasionaly pinched up under vacuum which caused the car to misfire and run roughly. A new pipe routed so there were no kinks in it sorted out the problem and cost me about 3 quid.
