Hi All,
Haven't posted for a while, had other things on the go then knackerd my back!
So now instead of struggling with an engine hoist in my garage at home we trailered the S chassis over to the factory and whipped the engine and box out in no time.
Bit slow at work so I managed to spend the whole day stripping the chassis ready for blasting and yes Chris you were right about the trailing arms has to saw through both outer pivot bolts.
Weak areas on the outside of the arms so will have to have them a coat of looking at, end of the day the job is moving forward!!!

Thanks Norman, I'm better with spanners, honestly! I can't open a file with a mouse but I can open a mouse with a file!!
I will post up some pics from my computer at work, next challenge is pulling the front hubs apart and banging some new bearings in after parts prep of course, told you FULL rebuild.
New rear wheel bearing kits arrived last night and parts are painted, yippee something going back together.
And well the body is sitting outside my front window and I'm really getting to like the original colour!!! could save some work!!

Those door panels and centre console might clean up OK - they are vinyl so could stand a bit of scrubbing. Whats the leather on the seats like?

Hey Chris, door cards are going to get re-covered in nice grey leather to match the XJS seats I have, our workshop would look better to me with some grinding machines in for rebuilding!! but hey might as well make good use of the stripping bay, thats our dirty area, assembly shop is real clean.

Hi all,
Chassis will be back in the workshop next week for repair after blasting, so made a start on the engine yesterday, looks like it was running on woodstain!! changed a few oils in my time but never seen such a brown oil before, anyhow on the plus side it rotated ok when the plugs came out which was nice as I fully expected to to be stuck solid.
and do people really manage to remove the the headers with the engine in the car? I found it a real bugger just on the bench!
Always going to upgrade the brakes so I have gone for the set-up from Kens garage, saves me cleaning up my hubs and replacing the bearings,Tinks seems to think they are Sierra Cossie so I will have to scope out some discs to suit.
Must order up the polly bushes for everything, who has the most comprehensive supply?

Innards of the engine look pretty good - a good colour anyway and not full of sludge.
Take the heads off and check the bores - I had a small ridge at the top of one bore for about 90 degrees - there is no real way of telling what caused it although one theory is that a bit of water may have been sat in there.
I had to have a +20thou rebore and 8 new pistons, but it doesn't cost as much as you think, parts aren't that expensive unless you want to start going for performance stuff.
Take the heads off and check the bores - I had a small ridge at the top of one bore for about 90 degrees - there is no real way of telling what caused it although one theory is that a bit of water may have been sat in there.
I had to have a +20thou rebore and 8 new pistons, but it doesn't cost as much as you think, parts aren't that expensive unless you want to start going for performance stuff.
Yes Real Steel DW268 Stump Puller cam is the cam I have, it works brilliantly.
I also used the Michigan 77 timing gears & chain set and a set of their hydraulic lifters.
I bought most bits from them, head gasket set etc.
I had to change the shims under the rocker pedestals with this cam - I had to go slightly thicker so you'll almost certainly need a set of shims.
There's a lot of factors that affect this - head gasket thickness, how ground in the valves are etc.

Also with regard to the headers I refitted the engine without heads.
I fitted the headers to the heads then refitted the heads to the car.
I used the AZ830 high performance exhaust gasket set and they do get in the way of the cylinder head bolts a bit - I had to 'adjust' them
One of the things to check on your engine is the rockers & shafts - turn the shaft upside down and slide the rockers to one side - you may find there's a big ridge where the rocker has eaten into the shaft.
Mine were pretty good so I reused them.
They can be quite hard to find (rockers) but if you need some I have a decent used set if you can't find anything.
