New 1200rpm Idle !!
Discussion
After the smooth running the car has been doing I have now developed a fast idle which is around 1200rpm.
I'm suspecting the throttle pot (month old) and have checked around for any other air leaks etc etc but can't find aything in the engine bay that isn't well connected.
I haven't checked all the connections to the electrics yet though ....
Any ideas....the idle isn't great either. It is pretty smooth, just not quite as good as it was previously...
Any ideas before I ship it to Tower View while I'm away ??
Cheers

Mark,
Likely as not it is the Idle Control Valve located on the top front of the plenum chamber.
To check it, if memory serves correctly, you can disconnect it from the wiring loom and start the car. Idle should now be 1000 rpm instead of 1200 rpm, (normal idle is 850 +/- 50 rpm).
If you can't do this because the engine cuts out completely, then another way to check the Idle Control Valve while the engine is running, is to give the 'barrel' of the valve a smart rap with a heavy screwdiver handle. If the idle speed drops, the valve is sticking!
Jas.
P.S. If this is the problem, take it off and clean it with carb cleaner to remove the crap which builds up inside.
