S3 throttle cable

my throttle cable snapped yesterday on my way back from Malton and i want to get a replacement to replace the fix that mr AA man did me, although it looks better than a temporary fix. he said any ford cable would do even a transit one. is taht true or do i need to try and get a specific grandadada scorpio one?

would like to get 2 (to carry a spare!) so any help would be appreciated.

Any bike shop will do, motorbike brake cable, well oiled should do it.

Believe genuine Ford now obsolete, have tried a couple of good motor factors and no "copies" listed. Good second hand crop up on Ebay occaisionally, got one little while back for about £15 as a spare.

Would like to know what people fitting new inners (bike brake cable etc.) do about the fitting on the engine end ?

the AA man fixed one up quite easily and said a transit one should fit. i'm useless at this stuff but believe him?

i have the old one in the boot so may visit a ford spares counter to see what they can suggest.

I would just buy the one from TVR car parts, I believe they are based on the original cable (a recent development, I bought one about 18 months ago and it didn't fit very well, they have redesigned them since however). I also tried a used XR4x4 cable, utter pain to reattach as it was broken (you need to break it to get it off). After much toil, if ever it went again, I'd buy the new one from TVR car parts to save a shed load of hassle.

I'm sure this is the case, it's been a while since I examined the throttle cable assembly, but in order to get a Ford cable off, you must cut the threaded bit that goes through the... o sod it it's getting late, I'll recap and report back when I can get my head around it
