Oh the times I have been sat at the side of the road trying to re-start my hot S2. Turn the key and only get a faint click from the starter motor area as the solenoid struggles to try to pull in.
Much seen with the bonnet raised attempting to cool down the starter motor to get it to start. Usually a quick bump start does the trick.
I followed Philpot's lead and fitted an ordinary 12 volt relay into the starter solenoid wire. Wired so that the solenoid wire just activates the 12 volt relay coil to switch a main 12v feed (from the starter main connection) onto the starter solenoid.
I could sketch out a wiring diagram if this isn't clear enough?
The theory behind this fix is that the 'old' cable carrying the current to the starter solenoid has probably degraded over the years. It's a long run of cable from the ignition switch all the way to the starter solenoid.
Add to this the fact that the resistance of a wire increases as it gets hot then you have too much resistance in the system to pull the solenoid in.
I haven't experienced a hot start issue since. Mike (Philpot) took his S on the recent Euro Trip (lucky beggar) and I don't think that he had any hot start problems either? I'm sure he'll be along in a minute to tell more.
In an earlier attempt to fix this problem I brought a new starter motor for £120 and guess what. It didn't fix the problem.

That's because the owner lives in York, as do I.
The car has recently been fully polybushed, gaz golds all round, rear disc conversion + new fronts too, new radiator and swirlpot, various other bits and bobs.
I know all this because I helped out...pictured below.

I don't know the story other than up until Christmas time he used to post several times a day and most of us gave him advice - then all went quiet and I found the film when searching through youtube for "TVR", just thought it would explain the silence, but then saw it had caused some issues on the TVRCC forum, which was not my intent.As I hope you are all aware the only thing I try and stir is the swirl pot or expansion tank hornets nest

All the help and advise he was offered day after day (and maybe perhaps a little micky taking) then he turns round and says the TVRCC forum is a much friendlier and helpful place than PH !
Who does he think is helping him "over there" ? exactly the same people who were trying to help him on here.

I have tried to stay out of this but I think Kingfisher should take a step back and consider who has been helping him so far. Hehave had endless advice here and now is just knocking that help. There is a limitw.
BTW I dont appreciate that that someone is sharing TVRCC membership. I pay for my own and so should you!!!!

To be honest if he's been posting outside the TVR forums on PH there's every likelyhood he's been ripped to bits on some of them - I have ventured there occasionally and some of them really are a Lion's Den.
The TVRCC forums are a bit of a church in comparison.
I can't be bothered to read the history - but if he's a young lad than personally I say leave him alone and give him some encouragement - if he's young it's his job to be annoying to us old farts and giving us something to moan about
