Brake Upgrade Information
Discussion
Hi All
I have been thinking recently that it might be useful to collect in one place all the information gleaned over the years by people in the S Forum and add subject based information in the FAQ area.
As an example it might be useful if Mark Prince mep12345 produced a note regarding location of filler caps and explainded to us laymen pros and cons.
I have been vaguely thinking for some time about upgrading my brakes and I know many people have done that very thing but I cant get after the information as the search engine is down, again, so I would be happy to collate information from all who have upgraded into a single thread.
If you could send me information under the following headings for:
Front brakes
1 New disk diameter
2 Donor of new disk
3 Donor of appropriate calliper
4 Addition calliper information eg 4 pot etc
5 Spacers (if any) required
6 Minimum inside diameter of wheel to accommodate
7 Source of parts
8 Photographs if available
Rear Brakes
1 New disk diameter
2 Donor of new disk
3 Donor of appropriate calliper
4 Addition calliper information eg 4 pot etc
5 Spacers (if any) required
6 Calliper mounts – if converting from drum brakes
7 New drive shafts – if converting from drum brakes
8 Minimum inside diameter of wheel to accommodate
9 Source of parts
10 Photographs if available
Have I missed anything? Please add any other information you consider necessary
I have created a new email address to only receive this information gerald_tvr@yahoo.co.uk (note underscore between Gerald and tvr)

Front brakes
1 New disk diameter = 260mm
2 Donor of new disk = Sierra Xr4i or Later model with ABS. DO NOT USE Xr4x4 disc offset is wrong for 2WD applications.
3 Donor of appropriate calliper = Sierra Xr4i, Xr4x4 or Later models with ABS. (Thats right Xr4x4 Caliper is OK but not disc).Make sure you also get the caliper mounting bracket the caliper is no good on its own.
4 Addition calliper information = Piston diameter in this caliper is 60mm over original 54mm.
5 Spacers (if any) required = None
6 Minimum inside diameter of wheel to accommodate = Any
7 Source of parts = Invariably bought secondhand then rebuilt.
8 Photographs if available. I'll see what I can find.
Notes: This is Griff / Chim 500 spec.
You will also need new brake pads.
Norman,
It may be interesting to add info on the dimensions of the flexible brake hoses to this thread (would make it easier for people replacing the hoses or upgrading to braided hoses). I say this because my cars hoses were quite unusual apparently...
To get things started I have a '87 S2 and the rear flexible hoses are: 200mm long (excluding threaded sections), 3/8 UNF thead at each end which is 0.88in (22.4mm) long.
Ralph.

Its a HI SPEC early chimaera kit it fits straight on, i made my own braided hoses just got the bits from local hose and hydraulic stockist. i got mintex pads with the kit £60 but cheaper ones are an option. they do cheaper kits with smaller discs they are listed on the web site as sierra brake kits
