hi,

my S is leaking oil. The drops are hanging at the joint, where the clutch bell housing meets this tin between the bell and the engine block. Now there is also a very small leak (just wet) between the rear bottom of the bell and the gearbox.
The bottom of the gearbox is dry between both joints.

I conclude from this, that the crankshaft sealing is yarning. ( I replaced the rocker cover sealings and it leaked already before)

I hope I will not need to take any counter measures prior the hibernation phase (October)

Can one remove the gearbox and the clutch bell without removing the engine? I have a groove in the garage.

Regards
Patrick

They all do that Sir !!!

Every S I've been underneath has similar issue of oil seapage...

Just keep a regular eye on the levels and thank it for helping to cover some of the chassis and keep that in good order !!

Thanks Mark,

this is at least a mental help.
And now lets all blame it on Ford!
I'd start with a gospel song: " Oh crappy days...Ford crappy days..."

Cheers Patrick

My Ford CVH is leaking somewhere around the Clutch/Gearbox! Nothing drastic, just little drops wherever I park the car!! I think it could be one of the ford engine Quirks!!!

Yup! Mine leaks too.

Just put a drip tray underneath to protect your garage floor...

My 2.9 S2 is the same. Don't worry unless it gets more serious and most importantly watch the oil level. The Gauges on the dash should all start to throw a fit if you sudddenly dump the contents of the sump in the road as well.

tvradict,
I'll bet your CVH leaks around the distributor oil seal, and is nothing to do with the gearbox!

Compound Valve Hemispherical head. It's a design of engine used in Escorts/Fiesta's/Sierra's, etc... And has absolutely nothing to do with TVR other than the fact that it is made by Ford and runs on petrol!

Ahhh, bugger, thats where the other leak is!! The only bloody seal I haven't checked! I've got a nice wee stream of oil running neatly down the side of the engine, it's also running onto the gearbox area but on the other side to that leak!!

Cheers Jas! I owe you a pint

If it is the destributor seal, it should be pretty easy to replace it?
Anybody tried to give'em a new seal?

My race Fiesta has always had the problem. Even after an engine rebuild, the problem re-appeared. I'm afraid it's another one of those "they all do that sir". Once a year I give the engine a go - over with Gunk to clean it up.

I had it at the Jet Wash a few times over the last week or so in a vain attempt to trace the leak! So my engine is clean, just looks very shabby! Why can't they come up shining?!?!

Poxy Ford!
