Uggh, don't ask, bit of a sore point that.
It was a private sale but was being handled through a well known independent, which was a fair old drive away. But seeing as the price was at the top end I figured what the heck it has to be worth seeing, especially given the colour was my favourite combination.
When I finally got there and had a look the car was a heap, to say I was disappointed would have been a massive understatement!! They had stated a price of £8.5k but I wouldn’t have given ‘em anymore than £5k for it, I really can’t believe how anyone could think it was worth £8.5k.
The paint was in need of a serious amount of work, the drivers door would barely open, the vents in the bonnet were broken, there was a thumb nail sized piece of fibre glass breaking off the drivers door, the biscuit leather looked more grey than biscuit and was ripped in several places and to top it all off the car was filthy and in pieces, even though they knew I was coming down to view it. If they were selling my car for me I would expect a lot more effort on their part; I’m assuming they would not be doing it without levying some sort of charge/commission, these guys obviously couldn’t be bothered to work for their money!!!
I could not believe the service (or lack of it) from this well-known specialist. It was not clear who worked there and who didn’t; after loitering around for a good ½ hour and trying to approach people I got fed up of being ignored and left. The condition of all the cars on their forecourt was disgusting, they were filthy, covered in bird muck etc, I can’t say I’d ever make that drive again!!
There ends my rant, all I can say is it’ll teach me to ask more detailed questions in future!!
Hmmmm, just re-read that, sorry about the long rant, I was a bit pi**ed, had to let off some steam somewhere!

Matt,
would be interested to know the name of this well known independent in case I need to order some parts in UK.
With the time he made you lose, does he deserve still any protection.
I experienced the same, when I was looking to buy a Porker Targa. At the end I was so pissed off that I bought my current S. It was the first I saw and my wife and myself were so blended that we bought it at the spot. (S's are much, much rarer over here) Up to now I do not regret it, despite some work I had to do due to lack of "specialist work" done before.
I wish you better luck for the next time

That thought did cross my mind as I was being ignored in favour of the ‘hooray henry’s’ (apologies to anyone called Henry) who were looking over the Chimera’s and Cerbera’s but who clearly had no intention of buying. I suppose that the fact was they had driven up in Chimera’s, therefore the company in question probably saw more money in servicing their cars than selling me an old wreak (whoops! Sorry, there goes my bitterness again), ah well you live and learn.
I am really keen to try and find a nice car before the end of August (I’m getting married then) as I am planning on using it to drive down to Provance for my honeymoon, but at this rate it looks like I’ll be using the Golf…bummer!

let us know how you get on Matt - meanwhile I have spotted a cheap Chimp in Fareham - if Fernhurst dont get back to me do i even tempt myself by looking...
I've driven past that one, L reg brooklands green (I think), keep meaning to drop in to kick the tyres. It's obviously a non specialist garage so first thing is find out why there's a TVR out of the fold/clique so to speak. Saying that, that particular garage does like to have at least one sports car in stock, normally porkers though!! Let me know if your going to have a look might stick my head in.
Harry
Harry - think this may be a different one then - its advertised as red? garage is at 217 Gosport Road? cant see the name of them in the advert though.
where is the green one and how much etc? might be worth a look as well. sensible choice would still be an S but absence of seeing many at local(ish) dealers and the weather becoming nicer is tempting me to do something silly.........

seems as if there may be a few kicking around then - the one advertised is gosport road but advertised as red! it is also advertised as a 4 ltr but rang them this morning and its a 4.5 so far chance the colour is wrong to! its up for £10995. will probably try and get to see it this week or at the w'end
matt - wheres the one in Botley?

This is getting confusing the green L reg one on the Gosport road is a 450, but is up for 12995, where was the 10995 one advertised?
To cap it off spoke to them on the way home from work and they got it in through Sparshats who in turn got it as a trade in?
The car; 68K miles, indifferent history, good cond body/hood, mixed tyres.
All in all alarm bells, but reflected in the price. Garage owner drives an Aston conv (so obviously makes the money!!) I don't think you'd find a cheaper 450, but a trip up to fernies with the car would be a necessity (on the test drive I would suggest!!) and a decent set of Bridgestone’s in the price.
Harry
anybody whos interested there's a dealer near me advertising a V8S with 43k for £7995 seems cheap to me perhaps he doesnt know what he's got as he's not a TVR dealer.
Anybody whoes interested try the autotrader site national search it should be on there as its in the west and wales autotrader rag
not playing cards close to chest (honest Matt!) - new e-mail/internet policy at work. baiscally no internet access!!!! arse.
