..... and get a sat nav (could be useful on Euro tour).
Now I know there's a whole section for these but its all a bit technical !
The guy I went to Le mans with had a Garmin, seemed pretty good, but then its which one ? any yeahs or nays for the Nuvi 1340 , seems a decent "mid-range" unit ? Don't want anything all singing and dancing just one that will get me to a selected postcode and big clear screen.

I would recommend TomTom XL IQ Routes - I have the one with Traffic which occasionally is very helpful eg on the way to london recently I was warned of a bad hold up on M4 and it routed me around it saving about an hours delay
No real complaints about my TomTom XL either.
The sucker happily mounts on an S windscreen!
The mapping is a little random if you're out in the sticks - sharp corners or mini-roundabouts put down as junctions, that sort of thing - but it's basically sound.
One good thing about TomTom and a couple of the other sat nav brands is you can plan itineraries. This works particularly well if you use a free program called TYRE, which allows you to plot them out on Google Maps. It means you can plot out all the waypoints on your route without having been there (say, Route Napoleon on to the Col du Turini...)

I got the Tom Tom XL (euro edition!) earlier this year. Only really used it for Scottish roadtrip and Le Mans so far, but I'm very happy with it; simple to use, big screen and as said above the itinery planning with Tyre is great.
I'll be preparing the maps & satnav files for the Euro trip over the next week or so and sending them out to everyone

Recently got the Garmin 1240. Seems OK.
Got it for the Euro-trip mainly as I don't want big arguments with Jane when we get lost and can't find the hotel. It will be worth its weight in gold if it gets me out of just one argument!!!
Which ever one you get, try the "money saving expert" site as it searches for the cheapest one. Well worth a look.
