Accelerating in reverse (apparently)

I had really forgotten what fun TVR ownership is!

Having fixed the fuel pump gremlin (broken wire) I had a chap hop out of his car at traffic lights today to tell me the reversing lights come on whenever I accelerate. I don’t know whether he was having a laugh as he had tailgated me for the last two or three miles. However, assuming he was genuine, what does that sound like to anyone?

Could it be related to the change of bulb I undertook yesterday as one of the reversing lights was too dim? I replaced a 5w bulb with a 21w bulb.

They are switched on the earth by a switch on the gearbox.

Likely unrelated to your bulb change, but I would suspect a loose wire earthing when you accelerate, either behind the lamp unit or on the switch on the side of the 'box.

Lamp unit in the boot is a bit loose on the nearside. I've now got the "bible", so I'll get my head in there and have a good look (not that I really know what an earth cable looks like, but it's a fast learning curve). Thanks.

The earth wire will be black probably. But being a TVR could be any colour!

Reverse light switch on gearbox - its awkward but you can get to it via the gaiter.

In the meantime I'd just take the bulbs out so you don't get plods attention.
