What a weekend!

I was happily driving to work on Friday, having a fun drive through the twisties when as I put my foot down to climb a hill there is a dull 'thunk' and suddenly absolutely no power. Dropped a gear but still no power so pull over in a convenient lay by and turn the radio off. The engine sounds like a bag of nails has been emptied into it 
I should point out at this point that this isn't the 21yo TVR, its my 'sensible' 5yo Hyundai Getz that has already had 1 engine rebuilt in its life. So I wait for the AA who duly arrive, start the engine and within about a second tell me it's royally b

I'm recovered back home and arrange a hire car (under my AA cover) for the weekend and was amazed when I got a brand new Astra 1.4 turbo with 240 miles on the clock! Great thinks I this will be a bit of fun compared to the Getz but oh no. With only 470 miles on it, halfway to bristol the hire car breaks down
So there is me in another lay by waiting for the AA to turn up (nice blokes AA guys, this second one loved Trevors!). This time he managed to fix the car (faulty temp sensor which needed the contacts cleaned) but needed a laptop tell the car it was actually fixed.
Today I got in the S and had a nice blast to work and back, and it didn't miss a beat. I love that little car!
ETA: well thats not entirely true, my throttle return spring snapped so the throttle pedal doesn't feel like its actually attached to anything. I think it was just the S complaining I haven't driven her enough recently.
