Hi all,

Well I’ve finally done it, I’ve changed jobs and got rid of the commute and I’ve now convinced the other half that it would be a good idea to sell the Golf and buy a little sports car instead!!! So I am trying to get myself back into a TVR.

Only problem is she put a proviso on the agreement that I wouldn’t be able to do it if the insurance was extortionate. Problem is the quotes I am having so far are pretty high, around £800 (Peart).

I’m looking at an S3 with a limited mileage policy of 6k per anum, for a 27yr old with full no claims and 3points (speeding), anyone got any tips of where the best place to get a quote from is?

I know this is a common question and I realise I’m being lazy by not looking through all the old topics but I am at work so it’s a bit tricky! Any help would be greatly appreciated and then of course there would be one more for the next ‘S’ meet!!

Matt

Thanks Paul,

Anybody got a number for A manning, I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Just got the price down to £400 with FootMan James but that restricts the mileage to 4.5k if I can get the milage upped a bit then a nice little 'S3' is coming my way!!

Thanks

Matt

Has anyone heard of a company called 'Classic Line'? A Manning couldn't really help but thought that my best quote would be from this company.

If anyone can supply the contact details, I'll owe you a pint!!

Cheers

Matt I'll second Classicline as possibily the cheapest out there, as I have a similar policy premium on a V8S with them, but I can't speak for what they're like for a claim (hope to never find out either). The good thing though is that it is a second car policy ie. they'll still give you the max discount if you're using your ncb on your primary car!! they just need proof that it is a second car etc. I have a 3K policy, they do do 5K ones I seem to remember that for 3K they give you a discount of 55% and for 5K its around 40% so at these prices it should be around another £100 to have the extra miles.
Good luck with the hunt, see you on the road when you've got the new toy.

Most insurance companies seem to be stuck with 3000, or 5000 miles with their policies and most if not all classic companies insist that you have another car as a main car. tel them you want the 5000 mile one and then inform them if you are about to go over. You must be honest with them.

With the classic car policies you don't normally get no claims bonus and you can therefore use this on the other car.

Look forward to seeing the beast!

good luck.

gadgit.

Thanks for this, any chance anyone can give me another telephone number or web address though, as this seems to be a fax number.

Cheers

I can also vouch for ClassicLine as I have a 7500 mile policy on my S1 with them and they were the only company that would give me a limited mileage policy with that sort of mileage. Cost last July for that was £320 and they did ignore my first 3 point indescretion. Phone number is 01455 891330.
Best of luck.

Bummer,

Just called ClassicLine and they told me the highest mileage policy they could do was 3k! I asked the girl to check that this was correct and she assured me that they could not do a higher mileage policy. This seems a bit odd as a number of you guys seem to have been quoted from them with higher mileage’s, were any of your quotes recent and did you have an existing policy with them?

Looks like it is going to be FootMan James then. I’m off to look at the first S this weekend so fingers crossed!!

Huh.. why on earth not...? "as endorsed by the TVRCC" ...was it the mileage, it can't be your age as I'm a youngster(ish) and I can't see that 3 points would cause a problem?
Cheers,
Matt.

PS I'm with Mannings: £240 for 3000 miles for me and my wife.

Problem is I want more than 3k miles on the policy, I think that is what is driving up the price, I'd settle for 5k per year, but can't seem to find anyone willing to offer that sort of cover.

Very strange that Matt, got my policy in Feb, 5K was on the table then, try ringing up again, see if you get someone else answer in a better mood!!!!!!! can't think of any other reason, unless the've taken enough 'risk' for this year as a company.

I got my insurance - 8000 miles pa, full NCD etc through Norwich Union Direct. Under £500 for a new Griffith 500 (in December 2001). Twenty years older than you though, still might be worth a try. If they accept you, you get an extra 10% off if you book over the web, I think.

So here's the thing, the best quote I have so far is from FootMan James on a classic policy, but this cover does not use my full no-claims discount.

Does anyone know if there are any companies out there that offer a classic policy (therefore lower premium) and allow you to use your no-claims?

If I buy an 'S' it will be my only car so I don't want to loose my non-claims, as if I ever have to sell the last thing I want to do is start from scratch again.

Cheers all!

Matt,

I've just renewed on a 'classic' policy, most of which require you to have another car for everyday use, have you checked this? If you have existing no-claims, ie 5 years, which is not used to calculate the classic premium another insurer would I believe in a years time accept the 5 years plus 1 year clear on the classic policy as six years - at least they have with me previously.

Hello Mattw,
my stats are 26, 4 yrs ncb, 3 pts. Last year £800 with sunninghill, this year 380 with amanninguk ltd. Both 5,000 miles pa. Both tvr specialists, no 2nd car required.
Hope this gives you some leads. cheers!
