Whats the best way to put it back on - I remember it was a real bugger to get off - do I have to put the Y piece under the bonnet then thread the exhaust into it & rotating it back and forth to get it to engage?
It it better to leave the two flange gaskets off till the exhaust and Y piece are together to give myself a bit of movement?

I presume it is compulsory to swear throughout irked

Once the exhaust is back on I'm pretty close to turning the key bounce

I'm not promising - it would be good but I am waiting on payment of some customer invoices and I'm really busy at the moment so it may be tight.

Hi Chris - great to see the impressive progress.
It's been a couple of years now but I'm sure that when mine went back together we put manifolds on tight (takes forever). Then added the Y piece, again tightly. Slipped exhaust into Y piece hanging it loosely on the rear hanger. I could then use the tail pipes to rotate and push the pipe as far as possible into the Y piece before final tightening.

Chris,

I fitted a JP system last year very easily without disturbing the Y-piece or manifolds. I had the car on ramps though, and without the extra height at the rear it may have been impossible.

Hose is fine thanks very much Tinks.

I also discovered my bottom hose has a bit chafed away underneath where you can't see it - I have sorted this by chopping it where the chafing is and using a 35mm copper pipe coupler & 2 jubilee clips, but it could be worth checking.

Thanks for the info regarding the exhaust - I did reckon the manifolds would be a real nightmare to fit to the heads in the car - so I cheated.
I fitted the block to the car without heads, then fitted the manifolds to the heads and then fitted the heads & manifolds to the car.
I nearly got caught out as the gaskets I used made access to the head bolts difficult, so, er, I had to 'modify' the gaskets. biggrin

shout PARDON????

Yes it's quite loud! IIRC at last year's S-Club it recorded 103dB at 2000rpm measured 1m from the pipes at 45degrees if that means anything to you.

All we know is, that's LOUD.

Graham

I refit mine as follows.

Struggle with manifolds, then refit the Y piece. To refit the exhaust I jacked up the rear as high as possible, this allowed the exhaust to be at a steep angle to slid over the ARB and onto the Y piece. lower car down a to a safer level then fit the exhaust up to its brackets.

All in all a bugger of a job.......Enjoy.
