As I have just purchased a 1992 V8S I need to find a good source of spares. Are there any independant suppliers or do you have to go to a TVR garage?

I also need to get the chassis cleaned and waxoiled. Does anyone know where I could get it done in West Sussex. I live near Horsham.

Im in Crawley, just a short drive from you and have a V8S also - but its presently undergoing some major surgery!

As far as spares are concerned - I'd stay away from TVR dealers wherever possible, you'll pay if you dont. Having said that Keith Kennard who runs the parts dept at Mole Valley in Redhill is a nice, knowledgable guy and helpful too. Eleswhere, try Land Rover dealers for specific engine parts, after all its a Rover V8 - thats where Im getting many of the bits and pieces for my rebuild. Raven Motorsport in Burstow, Nr Horley are also fairly local and very helpful. There are also plenty of other independents such as Wedge Automotive and Tower View who will also gladly take your money for mail order parts etc - they advertise on this site I believe.

As for the chassis - have you thought about getting under the car yourself? Its a labour of love, clear off the flaking paint with grinder, dremel or wire brush (or all three!) rust proof and Hammerite over. Finish with Waxoyl. Do a bit at a time and save yourself a fortune and you'll know its been done properly!

Thanks guys for the replies. On the chassis front I was thinking of doing it myself its just the problem of getting up hight enough to work under it.
My bigger problem is that the thing sounds more like a tractor! When its cold it does not want to pick in fact the revs drop when the throttle is pressed a little. When warm the idle is around 1000 but will drop and almost quit and then picks up again and it feels like it is miss firing but looking at the plugs there is no indication of a missfire. I have replaced distrib cap, rotor and HT leads but to no effect. I fear it could be expensive. Any help with ideas would be appreciated.

No doubt there are dozens of potential causes, but I got these exact same symptoms from cold once when the fuel pressure was set too high. It developed a severe misfire and would almost stall when the throttle was cracked open from idle, absolutely reaked of petrol and if it stalled in the first five minutes it really didn't want to restart. Got better as the engine warmed up but it was a complete pig for the first couple of minutes. Tower View corrected the pressure (adjustable regulator) and it's been fine ever since.
