S1 Coil/purple relay

Hi,
Does anybody know where the ballast resister is for the coil ? Ive been having problems with poor running and have found that if i put a 12v feed straight to the coil it solves the problem. Could be linked to the purple relay been replaced with a yellow one, like it when i brought it. Tried a Purple relay but engine will not start/ fuel pump does not run.

Is it not built into the wiring loom ? I know that's how ford used to do it! if it is in the loom then
it would be straight forward to bypass it and put a supplementary ballast in.
