Hmmm my old man has considered the same thing on his 4.6 wedge.

My knowledge of the V8S drivetrain is limited but I'm assuming the standard box is an LT77?

I don't thing you can get a 6 speed LT77, so the alternative is finding another 6 speed box and getting a custom bellhousing and prop.

An entirely different route to take would be an overdrive unit. You'd still need to get a custom prop but could use your original box.

I seriously would like a 6th gear! Going up to Chatsworth today from the Isle of Wight at 3500-4000rpm was horrendous! When you need to make progress on the motorway it's terrible! But great fun nonetheless biggrin

Ear plugs are a god send on long journeys! 6 hrs on the motorway for the Euro trip is going to be interesting ears

Factor in the weight to. A t56 has two overdriven gears and weighs about 9 stone.

Could you change the ratios in the existing box to give you a taller top gear ? or if you are not worried about acceleration you could perhaps look at the diff ratio?

just blue skying it...

K wink

I've just spoken to Top Boss about putting a T5 into my V6 S and after a while he said why dont you put a 6 speed in from a BMW diesel and they do an install kit for it - may be worth a call to see if they can do a kit to fit it to a v8

I've just measured the BMW 6 speed box and unfortunately the rear does NOT fit into the transmission tunnel furious and the gearstick would be a further 80mm further back - the engine would need to go forward by nearly 30mm for the box to fit and maybe more to get the stick somewhere close
would that amount destroy the handling (induce more understeer / interfere with steering column etc.) also probable issues with speedo compatibility)

Hi All.
I was looking at the E36 6 speed from a M3, I think it is a shorter lighter and smaller box than the BMW diesel but Toyota now do a 6 speed with no conversion parts required

Do Griffiths/Chimaeras have the same problem?

Alan

Talk about a thread resurrection, but can you recall which gearbox this is? On the motorway section of the Eurotour last week I found myself thinking on many occasions that a 6th gear would be an advantage.

Which box did you have before Gasmonkey and was any conversion required?

I had the T5 5 speed before

The easiest/cheapest way round this to help the problem at least is change the diff ratio and stick on larger wheels/tyres other wise you will end up with a bill for £3k+ at a min IMO
