My petrol tank has slight leak in the area of the opening for the fuel sender unit, initially tried to replace the sender unit gaskets but then discovered the more worrying and expensive truth...corrosion that appears to be irrepairable. Rang up TVR who no longer supply the fuel tanks (!) and only replacement I can find is a stainless steel unit from Steve Reid which seems a bit pricey at £349 (+VAT?). Does anyone know of an alternative and cheaper supplier?

Steve, I had exactly the same problem, but managed to save the tank just in time, corrosion-wise. Having painted and waxoyled the tank, I still had to fix the leaky sender unit; the technique may be of interest to you as an interim measure before you put in your new tank.

I used J&B Cold Weld epoxy. Available at Halfords etc. Hardly rocket science, but used properly, ie on a well cleaned and degreased surface, it has done the trick.

Do let us know if you find a petrol tank for a reasonable price though, eh?

Cheers, chin up

If you find a local Aluminium Welder/Tank Manufacturer near you they could probably run you up a new one at a bit more reasonable price ?

Cheers,
Matt.

I'm having a new exhaust built by Hayward and Scott. In their 'blurb', they state that they also build petrol tanks. They are based in Basildon Essex. Tel no is 01268 590772

I am looking into having some fuel tanks made but these might be a bit expensive as I was thinking of a foam filled Kevlar type tank, might look into alloy though

Cheers

OK forget that idea (about £1,200 for a Kevlar tank with internal bladder ), I am now looking into aluminium tanks which are going to cost between £250 - £275 all in.Anyone interested?

Cheers

Nice one chin up!
Tried your method you suggested with the cold weld and it worked a treat! Just filled the car up and not a trace of any leaking. Thanks everyone else for your suggestions, much appreciated.
I can confirm that Peninsula do recon the tanks for about £150 if anyone needs to do this.
Obviously LeeBee I am not in the market for one of those proposed ally tanks at the mo, but sounds good value at the price you estimate, I might be in touch some time.

Cheers
