Testing, Air temp sensor

Having removed the heads on me S 1.5 /2.9 engine, I have found that the right hand head was far blacker than the left. I am assuming that either the air flow meter or the Air temp sensors in the flow meters are not working properly. I have still got the flow meters off and can't see how to get to the air temp wires to test the resitance. The only bit that appears removable is the plastic rectangle with four small screws in it. Having attempted to remove this cover and lift it out, I quickly replaced it as there seems to be a lot going on in this place.
Is it the right place for the wires for the temp sensor, or not.

Jas is perfectly right as per normal....
Both AFM feed the plenum and therefor the air feed to both cylinder heads is a mixture of both AFM's. It is more likely to be an issue with the valve clearances not being set correctly IMHO.

Oh dear! leads me to a couple of other questions?
Why is there two air intakes and not one big one? whats the point in having two air temp sensors and two air flow metres then?
could the hole in the right hand exhaust(on the down pipe) have an effect on the back pressure on that side?
I found this hole when grinding through the pipe.

The only hole that should be in the side of a downpipe should be the hole for the lambda sensor to screw into. If you have a 'cat' exhaust downpipe this could be the reason, so I would blank it off if you don't have a lambda sensor fitted.
