Help still running rough

Wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help,for the last 2 weeks my s3 is running rough on tick over. I took it out 2 weeks ago and everything was fine stopped of at the garage for fuel and ever since then it has been playing up. I did use high octane fuel could this be the problem or could it be that I disturbed some rust in the tank and it is clogging up the fuel filter? or am I thinking along the wrong lines and it is something totally different. should I do as my wife suggested and just lock myself in the car and set fire to it and be done with it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Nathan sorry I can't help but some of the more knowledgeble guys on here will not doubt advise.I doubt its rust from the tank as i would hope the fuel filter would entrap any debris. I simply had to reply as your wifes comments made me howl with laughter...Hang in there I am sure it will be something and nothing. Very funny.

Sorry Damon but you are wrong about rust.
It clogs the pump before it gets to the filter. I've had that problem and cured it by treating tank.
I also had a similar problem that was caused by the resistor on the top of the fuel relay. Somehow it had got loose.
It took me ages to find and half a second to fix ~ just shove it in a bit!

I've had duff petrol before now (if you think that is a brand of fuel you've been watching too many Simpsons episodes) with water in it which caused uneven running, more noticable on tick over.

If all else fails and you do set fire to the car there are one or two bits I could use if you removed them first. Let me know and I can send you a list...

My mistake on the rust/filter theory as thinking about it fuel goes to pump then filter. I stand corrected. Some good advice given on possible causes though, hope its a simple fix.

I will have a look at the connector that you have mentioned. I think I will leave the car for a few days as it got the better of me yesterday, and I got rather irritated as I know it is simple but what who knows. Luckily I didnt take my wifes advice as I did feel like doing exactly that yesterday, but she did ask whether Brian Harvey was working on a TVR when he decided to run himself over, maybe he had a similar problem!
