My cooling system is very rusty, I can only assume that the "new" engine I am using has been run without coolant before.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to clean it up/ stop it rusing more?

Steve,

When you say it's rusty, do you mean the coolant's brown and sludgy?

If so, you'll need to drain the system, and flush it out using a garden hose. Do the rad and the engine separatly. Then refill using a quality coolant.

This should be done on the cars once a year I'd say.

If the above's not the case, what's rusty?

Cheers,

Dave.

My car has an assortment of stalagtights in the water system. although only very small there all over the place, inside the swirl pot, not to bad in the head though. I've got to flush the whole sytem yet and any advice from you lot on what would be a good bet to shift most of the rubbish would be of use.

As these cars are rusty everwhere else, why should we all not be treated with rust inside the engine as well.

Just imagine if the body was made of steel, we would all be booked in for car body restoration courses to.

Hope I'm not sounding to cynical!

The cars comming on nicely today, got the manifold back on and all the connectors clipped gack in. Actuly looks like I'm getting somewhere with all the head clean and smart (red fuel rail looks good! ) checked the tappets as per the bible, Christ! Ford have done something that is easy to do, just turn a bolt to adjust them (someone else must have designed this) only place with no rust so far was inside the rocker cover, but loads on the outside, of course.

Bible instructions very good on the tappits, as soon as the rods overlap, mark the top of the pully wheel with a piece of chalk, all went sweetly.(thanks to S.H)

should get the rest on tommorow, won't be long before the old gall will burst into life now!
