S1 Track Rod Arm Query!?

Hopefully this will make sense to someone.... My S1 is currently at the local garage. It needs a passenger side track rod arm. There is excessive play in the ball socket. Do I need a full replacement rack or can the arm be replaced on its own? If so, what part is it?
Ive looked on http://www.parkersteve.dsl.pipex.com/sparts.html but can't find the part I need.

Hello Adrian,

Yes can you change the track rod ends, as a pair is best. I believe they are originally from a ford Cortina Mk3. This company Amsteer Ltd supplied mine to Ragtop.

Hello - unless I've misunderstood you I think that if there's excessive play in the ball socket then it's the track rod end that needs replacing, not the arm itself (as that's where the ball is!). As mentioned above they are from a cortina, and quite easy to get - I got a pair from Ebay today for about £13 incl. delivery. Funnily enough I've been looking in to this today myself - this thread has all the information:

Apparently its play of the arm into the rack. Apparently not the rod end.

If thst the case Adrian I would go with the steering rack refurb,at £75 sounds like a bargain to me.

The rack and arms are all common ford and vauxhall bits, but its still not entirely clear what the arms are off, although it is known that the rack is Vauxhall Chevette. As had been said above the best route is a rack refurb, as its so cheap personally I'd say why bother trying to take any other route?

The garage ordered a chevette rack in. From the outside it look identical to the one on the car. Once opened up though; completely different. Turns out the one on the car is adjustable.. problem solved. No play in the wheel anymore. Car back home. :0)
