Title says it all really, fed up with the ing warning light flashing in time with my flashers if I have the lights on, heater on and wipers on. I recon a quick change of the alternator will go a way to resolving the issue.

Can qanyone help please

Hi Norman
It still works fine but the model I used is underrated at 35 Amps, there is a drain on the battery if the lights and heater are all on full, but there are larger versions of this available from landrover shops and they come in various output sizes at reasonable prices.

Wasn't there a thread quite recently about this ?

Think it involved a resistor or extra bulb or something in the ignition light circuit to get alternator charging at lower revs ?

Alternator (in good nik) should be more than capable of coping with demand, after all it was designed for a Granada which has a lot more electrical goodies than a simple little S !

The following link (if I pasted it in right) should be a diagnostic check sheet for alterators. It looks fairly comprehensive but might be American. Hope it helps.
Its usually brush or diode failure that causes problems which should be an easy change on the S.
I checked mine out today as the ammeter was dropping realy low with all the electrics on, I still had 14.2 volts at the battery on tickover though so I guess its OK.

My brushes failed last year, 26 quid for a new set and 2 minutes to fit.;)
