S1 needing light resto - how much?

My dad has asked me to sell his TVR S1, red '88 F reg. He has owned it from about 1993; it has not been on the road for some time but until recently was always started monthly and rolled in and out of the garage. The chassis and riggers were painted each year with hammerite even if it dodidn't go anywhere. It really doesn't need much to get it on the road for spring; the old exhausts have holed so he has a good 2nd hand stainless pair to put on. There was also a problem with a steering UJ, for which he bought a new column, again just waiting to go on. I don't know whether to advertise as-is or get it MOTd myself, figure if someone can drive it away it'll be worth that much more. Before I stick it on PH classifieds what would be a guide price?

If you can get it MOT'd - project cars fetch very very little - and S1's for some reason are always the poor relation when it comes to value for no apparent reason as far as I'm concerned.

Its difficult to value a car you have seen but if it helps i would say £1500 without MOT , and because its not been used . With the MOT double should be achievable .
If you can get an MOT and run the car for a few weeks to iron out any problems , give it a good polish then between 3k & 4k depending on what still needs addressing .
This is only a rough guide and my personal view but hope it helps .

To give you an idea, I paid £2k for mine last Sept. It had Mot till June 10 and was in fairly good condition. Chassis and mechanicals are good (as far as I know) but cosmeticly it needs work. New roof and a door rehung are two of the main things....oh, also it needs some new seats... and carpet...and...........oh god the list goes on!

I garee with the comments about S1 being less sought after but I looked at quite a few and this one was the best (within a budget of course)

Thanks all. I was thinking about £1800 without MOT, but you have stirred me on to get it MOTd. It really isn't as bad as it sounds, I just don't like working away fitting exhausts in the cold! Should get my finger out as Spring seems like the best time to advertise.

I sold my s1 for £3k after a complete chassis resto with load of new parts, needed bits tidying but was well sorted.
I've seen s1 goes for less than £1k, see the auction s thread that went for 800 to the one in classified that popped up and went for £1k.
If you don't want to do the work give me a shout.

A car needing 'just a few small jobs for mot' is bound to beg the question...."well why not just fix it and mot the bloody car then?"

That's how I view such vehicles/adverts anyway.

Unless you're buying at rock-bottom price, you really want to be able to legally drive the car home, even if it is a bit tatty.
