Boot won't shut

Hi all,
Well, my first trip out in the S since last October didn't quite go as planned - fired up first time, souneded lovely as ever but the boot won't shut
I've done a search on the forums but can't find anything relevant - the mechanism seems to be moving reasonably freely but just won't lock into place.
I did consider going for a drive with the boot open as its such a lovely morning here, but thought better of it.
Any ideas ?

Must be something simple like the catch already closed, but I guess you checked that already ?

Hello Penny if it`s the same as a V6 locking mechanism, check the spigot on the boot lid for tightness.

Have you tried screwing the post that sticks down from the roof lid back in? That's what the problem with mine was and i only found that after spending ages playing with the mechanism.

Thanks for replies so far chaps. The catch is definitely open and I can move it by pushing down on it with my key. The bit on the boot lid that goes into the catch seems fine, not at all loose. I can hear the bit on the boot lid going into the mechanism and the mechanism moving, but it just doesn't seem to be locking. When I move the mechanism with my key/screwdriver it seems to try to lock but its a bit stiff.

Got all the kids home from school now so I couldn't take it out even if I could ! Will try again tomorrow ......

Mine does that, I found that if I close then open the catch with my hand then it shuts properly and stays shut (don't really use the boot that often). Fixing it is on my list of things to do, as is finding out why the electric release doesn't work.

It is amusing when it pops open in the middle of an autotest.

I think my previous one remained tight but became slightly misaligned. Maybe penetrating oil isworth trying too (that's the limit of my techie adbice I'm afraid!).

I get the occasional refusal to latch on the boot lid. Each time on mine I have found that bending the latch/catch plate on the boot opening upwards makes it latch fine again for a while.

I assumed that the bracket itself is a bit weak and flexes away under the force of the boot latch and so cannot lock in place.

I was going to strip it out and have a new bracket made later this year, well at least it's on my list of things to fix sometime.
